The state Department of Justice has received a federal grant of more than $238,000 to help sexual assault victims. The funds will go to the New Hampshire Coalition Against Domestic Violence. It will be distributed to its 12 crisis centers to support direct service to victims, 24-hour crisis lines, child care, peer support groups, and emergency shelter and transportation. The grant is awarded through the Office of Violence Against Women, part of the US Department of Justice. Maureen McDonald of the coalition said that last year, more than 2,000 women, children, and men in the state reached out for support related to a sexual assault.

Distance Education
In addition to the many courses the College offers throughout the united states, it also provides access to educational distance learning opportunities. These courses are academically equivalent to on-campus classes and credits will transfer to other community colleges and four-year institutions.
Online Courses take place via the Internet, using various software tools that allow instructors to place course content in a password-protected site that only students who are registered for the class can access. Students can access these courses from any computer that has a connection to the Internet at any time, day or night.
On-campus Courses with online support allow instructors to post handouts and other documentation online for 24/7 access from any computer with Internet access.
Non-Credit Courses for professional development and lifelong learning are also available.

Louisiana: Dolphin Found Shot in Wildlife Refuge
Conservationists are offering a $1,500 reward for information leading to the conviction of whoever shot and killed a bottlenose dolphin in Louisiana. The dolphin’s body was found Saturday at Elmer’s Island Wildlife Refuge, just west of Grand Isle. It had been shot on the right side just behind its blowhole, and the bullet was found in its lung. The shooting comes after another dolphin was stabbed in the head with a screwdriver off the coast of Alabama this summer. There have been no arrests in that case. The Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972 forbids harassing, harming, killing or feeding wild dolphins.
